Murton House is situated in the tranquil village of Murton, just four miles from Appleby in Westmorland in the beautiful Eden Valley, and close to both the Lake District and Yorkshire Dales National Parks. There are truly stunning views towards Murton Pike and the North Pennines Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. This is peaceful location which makes an ideal base to explore the area or just spend some time "away from it all". There are some superb walks right on our doorstep with the renowned High Cup Nick and Pennine Way nearby.
The market town of Appleby, famous for its castle and annual horse fair, together with its cafes, shops and restaurants, is only a short drive away. We're also ideally placed for exploring the Lake District being only 30 minutes from the National Park. Teesdale, with High Force and Cow Green Reservoir, are within easy reach, as is the historic border city of Carlisle.
The cottage itself retains many of the building's original features with exposed beams and large barn door window, allowing in lots of light to make this a bright and airy place. A cosy wood burning stove and underfloor heating keep the cottage warm and toasty in cooler months. Murton House is ideal for couples or small families as the cottage is suitable for up to four guests.

There is wood burning stove in the main living area for those cooler evenings. The stylish decor and furnishing provide a comfortable and homely atmosphere, yet the cottage retains its rustic character with exposed oak beams and huge barn door window, making it light & airy.
The master double bedroom is upstairs on the mezzanine floor, which looks out over the living area. The second bedroom is downstairs and has bunk beds, and the bottom bunk can be pulled out to make a double bed, if required.
The modern bathroom downstairs has a bath with shower and underfloor heating, sink and WC.
The kitchen is fully equipped with everything you need including a combined microwave, cooker and grill, a hob, fridge and all the crockery and cutlery you will ever need.
There is a south facing stone flagged patio area in front of the cottage, with patio furniture, which gets the sun for most of the day - the perfect place to relax with a chilled glass of wine or beer after a hard day's exploring.
We have on-site parking for one car and also secure storage for bicycles. Well behaved dogs are accepted.
The Area: We are surrounded by beautiful open countryside, with nothing to disturb you other than sheep, birds and the odd infrequent walker. This is such an unspoiled, peaceful part of the country. Few places can match the beauty of the Eden Valley.
Eden is the perfect location to try many sporting activities - pony trekking, sailing or canoeing. Cyclists are discovering Eden with its quiet country lanes and ever increasingly popular C2C cycle route.
Appleby Golf Course is literally down the road with stunning views to the Lake District and over to the Yorkshire Dales. Teesdale is just the other side of the fells and is another beautiful part of the Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty which is the North Pennines - visit High Force - the highest waterfall in England on the mighty River Tees - or Cow Green Reservoir with stunning views over the North Pennines.
