Details: Thornton Lodge is a luxurious country house set in the heart of the Yorkshire Dales National Park. This beautiful sandstone property was built in 1909 as the summer home of a wealthy cotton baron and today provides a genteel retreat amid fine period features and antiques.

Home to the Kilvington family since 2004, we have undertaken a major restoration project and have striven to return the property to the elegance of the Edwardian era. Bespoke carpeting was sourced for the lounge, conservatory and magnificent staircase, whilst the oak flooring in the entrance hallway was restored to its original splendour to complement the setting.

Externally, Thornton Lodge is set within three acres of formal grounds, with magnificent mature trees flanking the boundaries and lawned gardens stretching into views of the surrounding hills. A private gate gives access onto our land surrounding the property, where a gentle climb up the hillside is rewarded by one of the best views imaginable.

Accommodation: Thornton Lodge has 9 individually themed rooms. Tastefully decorated in keeping with the Edwardian era, we have furnished the rooms with period wardrobes and dressing tables, blending these antiques with modern sofas from which to watch TV in comfort.

We have several family suites with luxuriously appointed Heritage Bathrooms, which are also available as a double. Other rooms include a groundfloor wheelchair friendly room equipped with a six foot super king/twin and again has antiques blended in with modern touches, including an ultra modern wheelchair accessible bathroom, incorporating a large accessible shower tray. Please ask about Single occupancy.

Dining: Breakfast - that all important start to the day, served in the elegant surroundings of our beautiful oak panelled dining room. We serve fresh fruit, juices, yoghurts, cereals and our hearty cooked breakfast.

Packed lunches are available upon request– made up to individual requirements, guests are asked to order these the day before they are required so that ingredients can be bought.

Evening meals are available by prior arrangement. My speciality is Wensleydale beef, roasted, with Yorkshire puddings and seasonal vegetables. We also serve the most delicious Wensleydale lamb roasts. As a lighter alternative, we offer marvellous Yorkshire ham, home cooked by our local butcher, and served with new potatoes and salad. Other dishes can be prepared upon request.

We are also more than happy to book guests into any of the many fantastic places available to eat at, in the surrounding villages.

Local Area: Thornton Rust is a village in the Yorkshire Dales, North Yorkshire, England. It lies about 2 miles west of Aysgarth, high on the south side of the Ure valley. The village has a bus service which goes to Leyburn and Hawes,[1] with about five buses per day on weekdays.

You will marvel at the views surrounding Thorton Lodge—we sit beneath Addlebrough, which can be viewed on the Aysgarth approach, whilst Pen Hill dominates the view in the opposite direction.

The nearby fields are grazed by cows and sheep, or left as meadow. An abundance of wildlife inhabit the hedgerows along the lane and the trees in our grounds. There is nothing nicer than to sit in tranquillity, soaking up the atmosphere, and listening to the birds. If you are lucky, you may even witness the deer which venture into our grounds—mostly very early in the mornings, but the have been spotted there at 4pm during May!

Many great walks start right from our doorstep and there are many trails nearby, making it an ideal stop over for walkers—this flexibility works equally for cyclists, who have found the property a useful place to stop on the Coast to Coast route.

We look forward to welcoming you soon, were sure you will fall in love with Thornton Lodge, as we did when we first viewed it.
