Markets

Markets provided the hub of life in medieval times and still form an important part of the economy in many small towns and villages. Historically, a market was not something that everybody could hold. Villages were granted a special license to hold the market by the King or Queen. The date that certain towns were allowed to hold a market is often heralded as the birth of that town with accompanying festivities. Markets are generally based around local produce and the public market is often a subsidiary of a cattle market. Today more modern goods can also be found like mobile phones and clothing. There are also several regular Sunday markets, farmers markets and continental markets during the season in and around the region.
