Retail Outlets
The Yorkshire Dales and surrounding regions are generally not a place for large shopping malls and hypermarkets, but plenty of excellent retail outlets can be found in the area including in Richmond, Barnard Castle, Sedburgh, Ingleton, Thirsk, Northallerton and Ilkley. Most villages will at least have general shop. If your in a particularly remote cottage in the Yorkshire Dales you may need a car or a good pair of legs to reach the nearest shop, be sure to check the information provided when booking a cottage if this is a problem. Many of the well known high street shops have set up here particularly in the larger towns such as Harrogate, just East of the Dales. If you would like a 'retail therapy' day out then a visit to one of the nearby larger cities or towns, such as York, Bradford, Carlisle, Leeds, Manchester, Wakefield, Durham, Darlington and Halifax can be considered.
