Water Sports
There are a range of water sports to enjoy in the Yorkshire dales. Canoeing and kayaking are especially popular. The reservoirs are an excellent place for young or novices to learn canoeing whilst the up-dale streams and rivers become very fast flowing immediately after heavy rainfall and produce some of the hardest and fastest white-waters to be found in the UK. Sailing takes place on the reservoirs (Grimworth & Embsey) and also in the former glacial lake of Semer Water. The British Canoe Union has an information service, which provides canoeists with up to date details of all the popular canoeing rivers.
