The Yorkshire Dales events calendar is endless and during your visit to the region you are sure to find something to suit you and your family. Yorkshire is famous for its fairs, festivals & shows during the summer months and the Yorkshire Dales will not disappoint. There are many great family days out with are lots of fun for kids and adults alike! Why not join in a wildlife trail, nature walk or guided tour, these open to absolutely anyone and are a great way to explore the dales.The Yorkshire Dales is an all year destination with many things to do and see in spring, summer autumn and winter. Ranging from live music to midnight walks and horse racing, the list is endless! There are always interesting talks going on too, topics vary from anything from fossils to flowers!

Harrogate Spring Flower Show 24 - 27 April 2008
See over 100 leading horticultural nurseries gathered together for the Harrogate Spring Flower Show, all exhibiting and competing for Best in Show and the NEHS Trophy. The Wakefield & North of England Tulip Society joins the Daffodil Society to put on two spectacular shows in the Plant Societies' Marquee. Pick up tips from professional garden designers and revel in the heady scents of the Floristry and Flower Arrangement Marquee. There is good natured competition to take home the prized trophy from the 14 flower arrangement and 6 floristry classes.

Dales Festival of Food and Drink 3th, 4th & 5th May 2008
Local celebrities, authors and raconteurs are on hand to encourage everyone to sample the delights of over 80 food producers at the Dales Festival of Food and Drink, set within the lush landscape of Richmondshire. Enjoy a ride on a vintage fairground attraction or relax to the sounds of a brass or jazz band, with the lush landscape of Richmondshire as the backdrop. Farming displays are designed to appeal to all the family with sheep sheering and have-a-go dry stone walling. Leading chefs invite you to watch their cookery demonstrations using local ingredients. And as you’d expect, there’s also a beer tent, filled with Real Ales from keen independent breweries.

Grassington Festival 13 - 18 June 2008
The Grassington Festival of Music and Arts is a veritable medley of the best music, performance and visual arts to be found in the country. This ‘grand dame’ of the festival circuit is in its 28th year and has an unbeatable reputation for putting on fantastic music, street theatre, poetry readings, magic and comedy acts. Last year’s festival goers enjoyed over 60 different acts around Grassington. This year sees the appointment of the first visual artist in residence who will have spent four months working with the community to put on a new body of work for exhibition at the Festival. 40th Anniversary Steam Gala Weekend 27th - 29th June 2008
A unique Gala with up to ELEVEN locomotives in steam throughout the weekend. Keighley & Worth Valley Railway Steam Gala runs a variety of steam trains throughout the weekend.

The Great Yorkshire Show 8 - 10 July 2008
The picturesque Crimple Valley is the perfect setting for an event that combines entertainment and fun with the opportunity to see first hand the many aspects of country life and farming.2008 will be the 150th Great Yorkshire Show and will be a celebration of agriculture and country life. The Main Ring is the hub of the Show - providing a wonderful setting for international Show Jumping and our World-Class Cattle Parade.The 250-acre site is filled with animals, country demonstrations, have-a-go activities and the Great Yorkshire Cheese & Dairy Show. Plus there's fashion, rural crafts and shopping!
Hearts First Yorkshire Three Peaks Challenge - Saturday 26 July 2008
This scenic 25 mile hike starting from Horton in Ribblesdale playing fields takes walkers through the Yorkshire Dales National Park and over three of the highest peaks in Yorkshire – Pen-Y-Ghent, Whernside and Ingleborough. Walkers travel from throughout the country to take on the challenge in this picturesque part of Yorkshire. The distance of 25 miles on this circular walk can be quite strenuous but with some training and the careful selection of equipment most people can accomplish this walk. Walkers can start from 6.00am to 6.30am and it usually takes between 9-13 hours to complete the walk. There is ample parking for cars at the playing fields in Horton in Ribblesdale. Please come prepared with a day’s food and refreshments to see you through the walk, there will also be two water stations along the route to replenish your supply. Mini buses will be on stand by in case you decide that the challenge is too much for you to complete which will take you to the finish.
Entry Fee & Other Information
The entry fee is £15 per person and the closing date for registrations is 14th July 2008. For this event we are asking participants to try and raise at least £100 each (that’s just £4.00 for every mile you walk). Due to the nature of the challenge we will not be taking on the day registrations for this event, so make sure you enter in plenty of time to raise your sponsorship. Brough Agricultural Show Thursday 21 August 2008
Brough Agricultural Show is organised by the Brough Agricultural Society & is the122nd show. Competitions for ponies, sheep, poultry, horticultural vegetables & flowers, confectionery, needlework, etc. The show is held at Leacett Lane Brough, Cumbria, CA17 4. Starting time 10.00am for main events but Stone Walling starts at 9.00am.
Malham Show 23 August 2008
Malham Show is held annually in the heart of beautiful Malhamdale in the Yorkshire Dales on August Bank Holiday Saturday. Under the shadow of Malham Cove this traditional agricultural and family country show has been taking place for over 100 years.Events and attractions on the show field all day: with some judging and horse events starting at 9am, main ring events start at 12 noon.
Wensleydale Show 23rd August 2008
Located close to Leyburn, North Yorkshire in the heart of Wensleydale, The Wensleydale Show is a traditional Dales show. Everybody is welcome, a great family day out, in the heart of Wensleydale, with cattle,sheep, heavy horse competitions,flower, vegetable, walking stick and handicraft.

The 96th Annual Reeth Show 27th August 2008
A traditional dales show in picturesque surroundings, Reeth Show in Swaledale, in the Yorkshire Dales National Park, is a great day out for the whole family, with entertainments, trade stands and a chance to see some of the best livestock on display.
