Middleham Accommodation

Set within the picturesque area of Wensleydale and on the eastern edge of the Yorkshire Dales is the ancient market town of Middleham. Often referred to as ‘The Jewel in the Crown of Wensleydale’ the town is an ideal base for walkers, cyclists, bird watchers and very popular with artists. The main attraction of the town is Middleham Castle which dates back to the 12th century and was once the home of Richard III. Many remains of the castle still survive and it is an intriguing place to explore. A well known town in the horse racing world it is home to several trainers and their yards. Other local attractions include the Chocolate Shop in nearby Leyburn, and the privately owned Cistercian Abbey at Jervaulx set in the middle of peaceful parkland. Take a trip on the Wensleydale Railway which runs between Leeming Bar and Redmire and passes through stations at Bedale and Leyburn. Some of the countryside it travels through is the loveliest in the country. Only a short distance away is Aysgarth where the visitor can marvel at the hugely impressive Aysgarth and West Burton Falls. Children in particular will love to spend a day at The Forbidden Corner which is often billed as the strangest place in the world. Within this attraction there can be found a trail of odd looking structures, tunnels, hidden doors, stepping stones, and secret underground chambers. Try a visit to the Wensleydale Creamery at Hawes with its museum and viewing gallery to watch cheese being produced.
