Arkengarthdale is a stunning and very picturesque area which lies to the very north of the Yorkshire Dales and is joined at Reeth to neighbouring Swaledale.

With evidence of settlements from as early as Viking times the dale holds lots of historical interest and is surrounded by some magnificent scenery. So much so that it has been the location for several TV series, including James Herriots very popular series, ‘All Creatures Great and Small'. Within the dale lie the villages of Arkle, Langthwaite and Tan Hill.

Arkle is called a town, but is actually a very small but pretty hamlet which nestles within the valley. It houses several stunning places to stay, including self catering cottages and bed and breakfast establishments, these make ideal bases from which to explore this wonderful area. For walkers and cyclists and there are several pathways and trails leading out into the hills from where visitors can experience some of the most breathtaking views across the dales.
