Full Description: Bowes is situated in the Yorkshire Dales one of its neighbours being Barnard Castle and a similarity is that Bowes to have some castle ruins. Still in place on two sides of the castle are the original remains of the inner moat.

A popular family attraction close by is the Bowes otter reserve, the otters are kept in a natural environment which resembles their existence in the wild. On the site there are public viewing areas where both the otters and moorland birds can be seen. There is also an area for refreshment, a shop and also a farm which is home to some unusual breeds.

History can also reveal a link to the Romans with evidence found suggesting a one time there was a Roman Fort, and ruins of an alter have been uncovered. The area is very beautiful and has some lovely walks in tranquil, unspoilt natural habitat.
