Full Description: Burnsall is positioned between Appletreewick and Grassington in the Yorkshire Dales National Park with both Skipton and Ilkley close by. Harrogate and the historic City of York are only a short drive away.

The village is in a superb location with rolling fells and moors in every direction, and this coupled with the quaint stone properties and lack of modern development make Burnsall one of the most beautiful villages in the Dales.

Adding to the beauty is the River Wharfe, a classic Dale’s river which flows by the village. The village also boasts a magnificent five arch bridge of natural stone construction, a large square church tower, village pubs and ancient school, all of which add to the charm of this stunning Dales village.

The village is nick named locally ‘Bonny Burnsall’ and is famous worldwide for its annual Fell Race, which can be traced back to Elizabethan times and is the oldest fell race on record. It is thought to have started as an ad hoc casual affair arranged to benefit children and women in the region.

Other local interests include the historic remains of Barden Tower plus Bolton Abbey and Trollers Gill (reputed to be haunted by Norwegian trolls). The very treacherous stretch of river known as the ‘Strid’ is close by and great care has to be observed after a heavy rainfall.

A selection of accommodation to suit all tastes and pockets is available in the area.
