Full Description: Giggleswick is a tranquil village which is located on the banks of the River Ribble directly across from the bustling town of Settle. The village boasts splendid views of the mountains of Pen-y-ghent and Ingleborough, with Giggleswick Scar also close by.

Properties in the village are an interesting contrast of 17th Century colour washed fronts, an array of mullioned windows, a ‘Tithe Barn’ and of course the village stocks.

There is a 15th century church outside which stands an ancient market cross. The church known as St Alkelda thought to be an Anglo-Saxon princess, who became a martyr to her faith when killed by the Danes in the 12th century.Sir Richard Tempest was laid to rest at St Alkelda church in 1488, alongside the head of his favourite horse! Inside the church is monument to Dr George Birkbeck, who resided in the village and founded the Institution of Mechanical Engineers.

The award winning falconry centre is located at Giggleswick. It is home to a variety of species including: eagles, vultures, hawks, owls and falcons, and in addition the UK’s only free flying Condor with a wingspan of over ten feet the largest bird of prey in the world. The centre offers a gift shop and tea room plus many flying displays – a great day out for the family!

.
Giggleswick has a selection of accommodation and a village pub, The Black Horse, and is an excellent base from which to explore the local country side or visit the many local attractions.
