Full Description: Horton in Ribblesdale is situated on the Settle to Carlisle Railway and is the start and finish point for many climbers tackling the Three Peaks. The village is also well known for The Pennine Way long distance footpath which also passes through here.
The area is also well known for potholing and caving, with Long Churn caves system and Alum Pot just to the north near the hamlet of Selside, and Hull Pot and Hunt Pot on the western side of Penyghent.
Horton station has recently been fully refurbished it is owned by the Settle and Carlisle Railway Trust. It is a very picturesque line and its gardens are beautifully maintained mainly by volunteers.
Horton is a perfect location and base if you are wanting to explore the three peaks of the Yorkshire Dales. The Three Peaks are Ingleborough, Whernside and Pen-y-Ghent. The total distance is 24 miles and you can walk the distance in one day, as long as you ensure you are fully prepared. The weather conditions can change quickly and differ from the base to the summits. There is an information point in the café.
In the village there is also a mediaeval church which dates originally from the 15th century and still has many of its original Norman features.
