The Ilkley Toy Museum is home to one of the finest collections of toys in the country. Many of the exhibits available for visitors to view, will take you down a historical road back to your childhood.
The museum is located on Whitton Croft Road, to the back of the Winter Gardens, on Station Road. This is located ideally quite close to the car park for the shopping centre on Brook Street. It is also perfectly placed for those who travel on public transport, being very close to the Bus and Railway Station on Station Road.
The museum is open between 12 noon and 4:00pm on Saturdays and Sundays. School and group visits can be arranged during the week, by appointment only. Up to 40 pupils can be comfortably accommodated, giving them the chance to see some fine old toys they mate have only ever heard of before. Visits generally last for about an hour and a half. There is also the opportunity for visitors to enjoy a packed lunch at the museum after enjoying their informative tour.
The most impressive part of the museum for many is the fine collection of early English wooden dolls. Many young girls find these most intriguing.
The museum has a wide range of dolls, dolls houses, teddy bears and tin plate toys to name a few. Some exhibits date back from as far as 350BC.
Whether you are young or old, this museum certainly has something for everyone.
