Full Description:
Middleham is between Wensleydale and Coverdale, its history dates back to the 12th century and has many links to the racing industry which still exist today. There are 2 main market squares and the majority of its shops and tearooms are located around the squares.

The pretty town has some attractive features including the remains of a medieval castle which was once occupied by King Richard III. One can wander amongst the ruins and sense the atmosphere and the splendor of the architecture. At the top of the keep is a tower which has commanding views of the Yorkshire Dales. There is also an old school arts workshop which is popular with visitors.

Middleham is an excellent base for exploring the surrounding countryside, perfect for walking, fishing, cycling and bird watching. The Yorkshire Dales cycle walk is also close to Middleham.
