Details for Nidderdale Museum

Nidderdale Museum

The unique Nidderdale Museum recreates the past in a fascinating series of exhibits and displays. The museum is a replica of days gone by, set in an historic Victorian workhouse. This is definately a must see for visitors to the area.

Life in time gone bye is on display at Nidderdale Museum so take a step inside and step back into a bygone era of life in the Dales. Displayed across eleven rooms you can see the transport of the day, the costumes, industry and so much more.

Imagine you are out doing your shopping and call in at the Cobblers Shop and the General Store is a must, its full of groceries packaged as they would have been in those days, pick your child up from the local school: pick a new hat for that special day from the local Milners, it is so much fun.

Did any member of your family come from Nidderdale, come and have a look at the family records held in the museum and the records from all the local churchyards, you never know what facts you will come across.

The Nidderdale Society came into being in 1975, much of the Dales and its history and what made it tick was disappearing and so an army of local people came together to run the Museum and new volunteers are welcome as it is volunteers who keep the Museum going.

The Museum provides toilet facilities for able and disabled and some parking is available outside the Museum, disabled car bay also available. And the Museum being in Pateley Bridge, its only half an hour from Ripon so you can add this to your places to visit list.

It really is like going back in time.
