Close to Penrith, nestling in the stunning countryside of Cumbria are the villages of Orton and Pooley Bridge, where traditional farmers markets are held monthly.

At Orton the award winning market opens every second Saturday of each month between 9.30am and 2.00pm.

There are around forty stalls selling a wide selection of high quality local produce and hand crafted goods, under cover  in the market hall and outside in the market place. Local growers, farmers and producers come together with traditionally skilled craftsmen and local artists to bring this colourful and bustling market to life, with cookery and craft demonstrations and live music.

It is the perfect place for foodies to source some amazing and delicious delicacies made from local ingredients, freshly reared meats and seasonal home grown fruit and vegetables. There are also some mouth watering homemade jams and chutneys, cheeses and home baked goods on offer, and the local Kennedy's chocolate factory is close by to add a touch of decadence to the shopping list.

On market days there are welcome refreshments available all day at the market hall, church hall and local cafes, making this the perfect spot for walkers and cyclists to rest up and take in the smells, sights and sounds of the market, there is also ample disabled parking available close by.

From the 26th May 2013 there will be a new Orton Farmers Market which will take place every last Sunday of each month until November at the Rheged Centre in Penrith between 10.00am and 4.30pm, and then in mid December just in time for those last minute Christmas treats.
