Details for Richmond Castle

Richmond Castle

Richmond Castle stands high above the town and is one of the most visited tourist attractions in the area. The colourful history of the castle is well documented and there are fascinating exhibitions and displays on show. The castle gardens are exquisite.

Maybe this is how the North/South divide came about as this castle was built to tame the folks in England's north lands, now it is one of the most popular tourist attractions in the Yorkshire Dales, which is an area of outstanding beauty in its own rights.

The Castle sits in gardens which are a delight to wander around, they were landscaped in 2000 at the request of the English Heritage folk and the garden has the name Cockpit in which you can sit and enjoy the sun, the views and hopefully you will have brought a picnic with you to dine Al Fresco. Enjoy the space and freedom and you are welcome to play ball games as long as you do not spoil the enjoyment of others.  You are welcome to bring the family pet, but please keep them on their lead and clean up after them!!

A shop will provide hot and cold drinks from a machine but do look around the shop and buy a gift to remember your day at Richmond Castle.

Throughout the year many exhibitions are held at the Castle and there is bound to be an event that takes your fancy, it could be the Knights Tournament or it could be Medieval Courtly Combat that captures your imagination.

Parking is not available at the Castle but you can park at the Market Place close by.

With views over the Yorkshire Dales, don't forget to bring your camera and capture a day full of happy memories and interesting information.
