Details for Shipley Glen Cable Tramway

The Shipley Glen Cable Tramway is open every Sunday from noon to 4.15pm(ish) and bank holidays, and scenic walks a cafe and pub are all close by - so come and enjoy a great Sunday afternoon out!

There is something about things from a bygone era that touches our hearts and the Shipley Glen Cable Tramway is no different, it is the oldest Tramway in the UK as it dates back to 1895 and was the link to Shipley Glen which is near Saltaire in West Yorkshire.

The line is nearly a quarter of a mile long and when you get to the top, which saves you a walk up a very steep hill you can enjoy a cuppa or a pint in the local café and bar that are close by.  You can then take a wonder thru the wonderful Brackenhall Countryside Centre and enjoy the rocks and woods which are part of Shipley Glen.

The station at the bottom of the line allows you to enjoy the River Aire and if you are in the mood for some more culture, there is the Hockney Museum in Saltaire.

The Tramway is staffed mainly by volunteers and it takes a lot of maintenance and many other tasks to keep the attraction up and running, so if trams and trains are your type of thing, why not offer your services, they would be truly welcome.

If you are unable to support them as a volunteer support them by buying something from the gift shop which will be hard to do, because there will be so many attractive gifts and memento's to choose from, also before you go, call in at the Edwardian Shop which will take you back in time.

It's a great day out at Shipley Glen Cable Tramcar.
