Details for Wensleydale

Wensleydale is probably the most famous of all the dales in the Yorkshire Dales National Park. It can be found in the northern section of the park and is an area of tranquillity, peace, stunning scenery, patchwork limestone, walled hillsides, historic market towns and quaint villages.

Wensleydale became particularly well known due to the writings of James Herriot the dales vet, whose books where depicted in the very successful TV programme 'All Creatures Great and Small'. Much of the series was filmed on location in and around Wensleydale. Such is the attraction of Wensleydale to TV and Film producers, that many other titles have featured Wensleydale including: 'Robin Hood Prince of Thieves' filmed at Aysgarth Falls and 'Calendar Girls' filmed around Wharfedale and Kettlewell.

Wensleydale is a superb location for a holiday, short break or day trips and offers; an abundance of 'areas of outstanding natural beauty', quaint villages, castles, spectacular waterfalls, country houses and much more. All can easily be explored by car or on foot where the visitor can enjoy the views, saunter down footpaths, enjoy a pint and lunch at a village pub.
