Grassington Overview
The village of Grassington is located in the West of North Yorkshire, deep in the Yorkshire Dales. Limestone and lead were traditionally the local exports and much of the history is linked to these industries. The village was made a market town in the 12th century, this market ran until the 1860s.
Due its rural position, Grassington gives access to some of the original woodland which once covered the whole of England. Known as ‘Grass Woods’, the ancient forest also contains ‘Fort Gregory’ which dates back to the Iron Age.
