Leighton Reservoir offers a superb location for some excellent fly fishing, on the moors above Masham. This large reservoir is well stocked with both brown and rainbow trout and has good facilities. There is ample car parking and day tickets are available.

Leighton Reservoir is a large expanse of deep, windswept water situated close to Masham up in the hillsides of Wensleydale and just a stones throw from the village of Leighton. The surrounding countryside is just breathtaking and as such forms part of the Nidderdale Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. Nearby is the neighbouring water of Roundhill Reservoir. The scenery and walks around the reservoir are delightful, and there are some points of interest to look out for, like the bridge and the stone carving of the City of Leeds crest in the wall. There are plenty of places to sit and admire the view or enjoy a picnic lunch.

Leighton Reservoir is the perfect venue for fishing and enjoying the wonderful fresh air, and top quality fly fishing is the order of the day at Leighton. The reservoir is teeming with good sized brown and rainbow trout and there are plenty of fine spots to set up and enjoy a leisurely days sport and hopefully net a couple of fish for tea. Fishing is allowed from the bank only and day tickets can be purchased from the fishing hut on the northern shore of the reservoir. There are also toilet facilities and a small car park for disabled permit holders close by.
